Water in a crawlspace is a bad recipe.
Challenge
This homeowner called in with concerns about water in his crawlspace causing the insulation to deteriorate and musky smells in the home. The water may have been coming through a crack in the foundation but the water vapor caused most of the damage throughout the crawlspace!!
Solution
Our solution was to fix the crack in the foundation and line the perimeter with a SmartPipe drainage system and a sump to pump the water up and out! This ensures the water doesn't pool in the crawlspace and keeps the area dry. A specially designed crawl space sump system has features such as:
1. A sturdy liner made to mate with an airtight lid
2. A floor drain in the lid in case of a plumbing leak
3. A reliable cast-iron pump with a mechanical float switch
4. A stand under the pump
5. An alarm to alert you to pump failure or a plumbing leak
Besides water, you must remove water vapor! After taking care of groundwater in your crawlspace, you'll need to deal with the water vapor (and bugs) that arrive via the exposed earth.
