Make My Home Warmer in Winter
Challenge
Local homeowners contacted Foundation Supportworks of Idaho concerned with the loss of heat in a bedroom. The air from the vent seemed cold and the room's floor was much cooler than the floors in the rest of the home. The homeowners stated that there was even a noticeable difference in air temperature between rooms. While the bedroom was the main concern, the owners felt the entire home was colder than they would like it to be in the winter.
After a home visit and a thorough inspection of the crawlspace the problem was identified. Cold, damp air was seeping in through the cement walls of the crawlspace. To make matters worse, the existing plastic barrier was allowing moisture to evaporate from the ground. Combined, these two problem sources compounded the cold weather conditions outside and affected the temperature inside the home.
Solution
Our System Design Specialist was able to explain the problem to the homeowners and review the solution process. Wanting to make their home a comfortable living space, the owners decided to move forward with the project.
We began to remedy their cold home by sealing the entire crawlspace with our CleanSpace Crawlspace Encapsulation liner. This high quality liner prevents moisture from evaporating from the ground into the crawlspace. We then insulated the entire perimeter of the crawl space with our SilverGlo Insulated Panels. These panels act as both a vapor barrier and an insulator in one with the added bonus of a clean, professional finish. With the entire crawlspace sealed off from outside moisture, all that was left to address was the cold air coming through the bedroom vent. We wrapped the vent in our SilverGlo VentBlock insulation panels, and the project was complete.
The home is now a warm cozy place to relax, no matter what room you are in. Even better, their heating bill has been reduced as well!
